Is Downwards Records the Label Of The Decade? Vote now
Downwards Records is a record label founded by techno DJs and producers Regis and Female in Birmingham, England in 1993.
It was initially established to release the set of tracks recorded by fellow Birmingham DJ and producer Surgeon, but became one of most iconic British techno labels of the 90s and 2000s.
Although most closely associated with techno's Birmingham sound, which it pioneered, the label has released a wide range of music, from garage rock and shoegaze to industrial music and electronica, with an everlasting commitment to gothic, distorted sounds and bleak cinematic textures.
