Is DFA the Label Of The Decade? Vote now
Formed in 2001, this New York City institution reinvigorated the city’s dance and indie scenes. Led by LCD Soundsystem frontman James Murphy, the label fused DIY ethics, fuzzy guitars and house music danceability to create an instantly recognisable DFA sound.
The Juan Maclean, The Rapture and Hot Chip have all called the label home. The punk-funk dynamics of these bands have produced some of the biggest DFA hits like The Rapture’s ‘House Of Jealous Lovers’ and The Juan Maclean’s ‘Happy House’. But DFA’s mythos will always be LCD Soundsystem. The band’s popularity opened doors for the label, and made fans familiar with one of the coolest aesthetics in music.
