Investigation underway into Birmingham nightclub shooting as four injured

An investigation is underway into a shooting at Birmingham nightclub Mango that left four injured, one critically, over the weekend.

The incident occurred at around 3:AM on Saturday, September 20, during a “busy” period at the 500-capacity Bristol Street venue, according to West Midlands Police.

The shooting left two men and a woman injured, while one man was taken to hospital in “critical condition”. Another person also sustained an injury after falling over during the disturbance.

Acting Chief Inspector Michael Clarke said: “This happened in a busy nightclub, on one of the main roads out of Birmingham city centre, so it’s vital that we hear from anybody who saw what happened or who may have captured it on dashcam as they went past.”

An investigation is now underway into the shooting. A 32-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, according to police.

Another three women in their 20s and 30s were also arrested and questioned on suspicion of violent disorder, but were later released on bail, a spokesperson for the force said.

In a statement shared on Instagram on Saturday following the incident, Mango’s management confirmed that the club is now closed until further notice.

"The safety of our guests and staff is always our highest priority,” they said. “We are fully cooperating with the police in their investigation and will continue to support them in every way possible.”

"As part of our commitment to ensuring a safe environment, we will be conducting a full review of our security procedures and working closely with the relevant authorities."
