At the untimely age of 37, Los Angeles has lost a key player of its music scene. Norman Mayers was the co-founder of the celebrated series Strictly Social and also the Editor-in-Chief of Nu-Soul Magazine.

Mayers was inspired by an early exposure to a variety of different and colorful music cultures. Born in the Bronx in the 80s, Mayers went on to spend his formative teenage years in Barbados, where he absorbed the bright influences of reggae and dancehall. He returned to the United States to Miami in the 90's at the height of the rave movement uprising and soon began to actively involve himself as a contributor to a collective of music publications.

Later, he made the transition to the West and kicked off Strictly Social, a recurring event meant to celebrate electronic and soul music artists.

Norman Mayers passed away from pneumonia at age 37. Los Angeles will greatly miss Mayers and his contributions to the music scene.
