“The house was vibrating”: Illegal rave in Devon could be heard from 15 miles away

An illegal rave in rural Devon has stirred up multiple complaints in the local area, reports Cornwall Live.

The unlicensed party went ahead in the early hours of Saturday, November 12, when music reportedly began between Boyton and Holsworthy at around 12:AM. According to locals, loud music could be heard until 9:AM the next morning.

One local shared footage from her Ring doorbell showing a confrontation between herself and partygoers as they sped through the rural area on Saturday night.

“I was awoken at 4:AM. It felt like the house was vibrating, yet I live many miles away from where the rave was being held,” she told Cornwall Live.

According to locals, music could be heard all through the night from “15 miles away”, as well as reports of “rallying and racing” in the area. One local complained that it was an “extremely distressing night”.

“I was nearly run down by three of the vehicles involved,” she explained (per Cornwall Live). “I heard cars driving dangerously past and engines revving around 8:45PM and eventually the police attended just before 10 pm.

“Unfortunately, they did not catch any in the act, but I have provided them with photographs and videos of those involved,” she said.

Police attended the scene of the illegal party and were on site for hours, according to the force incident manager (FIM) for Devon and Cornwall Police. “Police are still on scene but the music is off and everybody is leaving,” they said on Saturday morning.

"The organiser has also confirmed equipment is all being packed up,” the FIM added. According to police, the organiser was also behind another large illegal rave which took place earlier this year in Cornwall on Davidstow Airfield.

The previous rave was subsequently named ‘Ravidstow’ as it raged on for three days next to a model aircraft exhibition in rural Devon over the Jubilee weekend.
