Haleek Maul

Aggro-dripping swagger from Barbadian rapper on new mixtape, 'Prince Midas'

Haleek Maul

Born in Brooklyn but from Barbados, Haleek Maul is the artist making woozy rap jams.

His first mixtape, 'Oxyconteen', arrived when he was just 16, introducing us to his grit-smothered lyricism, and he's back with a new one, 'Prince Midas', this month.

So far we've heard the stormy 'Feuer', produced by Cubby and Shy Guy, 'Money God' and the Dubbel Dutch and Shy Guy-produced 'Love', with other producers on the mixtape including Last Japan, Boody and Saul Williams.

Maul's treated us to a free download of 'Dead Em' (produced by Shy Guy), a short, drum-clattering snippet of what else to expect from the forthcoming project. As ever, there's plenty of aggro in his lyrics, but he still shines with cool-as-you-like rap swagger.

'Prince Midas' is out on November 9
