Anyone who's grown up with a Playstation will be familiar with with Gran Turismo.
The Sony mainstay has been one of the world's favourite driving simulators for generations and the latest edition Gran Turismo Sport has just been released on Playstation 4.
As far as racing games go, GT: Sport is one of the most visually stunning out there. The expansive maps, scenery and locations are simply gorgeous on a 4K screen and they show off just how far console graphics and next-gen gameplay can go. Although perhaps not as clean as Forza Motorsport 7, there's no denying it's visual achievements.
Arcade mode is the best place to get both a feel for the game and to also test out as many new cars and tracks as possible. You start off having to make to do with your standard Ford Focus's and Hyundai road cars but this gives you an initial feel for the steering, control and handling of the game. In a nutshell, it's hard. It's not your standard racer.
The emphasis here is put on the fact it's a simulator rather than a game you'd play with your mates and have a laugh. While you can do that, Gran Turismo Sport puts the focus on making this as realistic of an experience as possible, but then that's something that's always been the case with GT. It's not quite as expansive as editions gone by and lacks a few features that other rival games have but there's no denying that Gran Turismo Sport is a fantastic entry to an incredible series.
We can't very well talk about the game without mentioning the soundtrack. Gran Turismo has always had brilliant sounds to accompany the game and this year there's a perfect blend of music to guide you through the mountain courses and beach-side bends. There's a selection of ambient cuts, some rowdy drum 'n' bass heaters and also some downtempo electronica that work brilliantly with the game.
Fans of the series will be satisfied with Gran Turismo Sport and there's no doubt new players will be enticed by the challenge of learning how to drive on the best simulator around.
