Glasgow's Clyde Built Radio launches fundraiser to help secure future

Glasgow community broadcaster Clyde Built Radio has launched a fundraiser to help secure its future. 

Clyde Built Radio announced the fundraiser via Instagram yesterday (November 12), writing: "We’ve launched a crowdfunder to secure the future of the station." 

"We’ve avoided big fundraisers until now partly out of stubbornness and partly out of awkwardness, but CBR is at a crossroads and we can’t do this without you," the statement continues.

Launched via Crowdfunder, Clyde Built Radio is looking to raise £20,000 with its fundraiser to help pay for rent and running costs in the next year, and improve its Barras-based studio. 

Scottish national arts agency Creative Scotland will match all donations to Clyde Built Radio's fundraiser, meaning that all contributions will be doubled; at the time of writing, CBR has raised £6,900. 

The non-profit station has been running out of the Barras for over six years, helping to connect local Scottish DJs and artists with national and international listeners.

In the description on its crowdfunder, the Clyde Built Radio team cited issues such as declining club attendances, a rise in the cost of living, and difficulty accessing funding and grants for independent arts projects. 

"We’ve reached a point where this model is no longer sustainable. We need to raise enough money to secure the station’s running costs for the year ahead," the description reads.

"That stability would finally give us space to focus on building long-term sustainability and doing more of what we set out to do: supporting and connecting Glasgow’s creative community."
