​A Glasgow record store is auctioning off backdrops from viral Willy Wonka experience

Monorail Music, a record shop based in Glasgow, is auctioning off legitimate backdrops from the viral Willy Wonka experience after it was shut down last month.

The record store is currently selling two original backdrops from the experience as well as the 'Time Tunnel' backdrop, listed on eBay as a package. The auction is due to end on Thursday, March 14.

“This is real,” Monorail Music announced on Twitter last week. “Glasgow Willy Wonka Experience "House Of Illuminati" orig backdrops, for sale, from us.”

The backdrops were discovered in a bin near the Willy Wonka experience, found by a friend of the record store. They’re currently due to fetch £595 at auction with 43 bids, with another three days to go until the final sale.

All proceeds from the sale will go to Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP), Monorail Music announced, a British charity offering medical aid in the West Bank, Gaza and Lebanon.

“Auctioning 2 original backdrops and the Time Tunnel on eBay. Rescued from the bin by a pal of the shop. All profits to Medical Aid For Palestinians.”

Willy’s Chocolate Experience went viral in February after videos emerged online showing disappointed parents and children who were sold an “immersive children’s experience” for £35 a pop, and found themselves in a poorly decorated warehouse.

Actors’ scripts were said to have been written by AI, and staff were told to give children just one jelly bean and a quarter of a cup of lemonade each, according to Today.

One attendee told Sky News that they were “sold a dream and delivered a nightmare,” while another explained that all the children “were crying”, saying: “It was terrible, shocking and embarrassing to be honest.”

The experience, set up by Scottish company House of Illuminati, was shut down following complaints and demands for refunds. Police were also called to the event.
