Ghetts charged in connection with fatal hit-and-run in London

Ghetts has been charged with causing serious injury by dangerous driving, after he allegedly failed to stop following a fatal crash in London last weekend.

According to BBC News, the musician - real name Justin Clarke-Samuel - has been accused of hitting a 20-year-old man on Saturday (October 18) in Ilford, East London.

Emergency services were called to Redbridge Lane East on Saturday (October 18) following reports of a pedestrian having been hit by a car. The car allegedly did not stop at the scene, reports This is Local London.

Clarke-Samuel was charged following a hearing at Stratford Magistrates' Court on Monday (October 19), though his charges are likely to be upgraded to causing death by dangerous driving, after the as-yet-unidentified victim died as a result of his injuries the same day.

Convictions for death by dangerous driving can carry sentences that range from community service to a maximum penalty of life imprisonment; according to statistics from the Sentencing Council, the average sentence is currently around four-and-a-half-years.

Clarke-Samuel has been remanded in custody until his next hearing at Barkingside Magistrates' Court on Monday (27 October). The Metropolitan police are appealing for witnesses with any information around the incident to come forward.
