Fundraiser launched to support medical care for Ibiza legend DJ Alfredo
The 71-year-old DJ suffered a stroke in 2021 and requires ongoing medical care
A fundraiser has been launched to help support medical care for Ibiza legend DJ Alfredo, aka Alfredo Fiorito.
The 71-year-old DJ requires private healthcare after suffering a stroke in 2021. He remains in a retirement home where he receives aid and medical treatment.
After emigrating to Ibiza in 1976, the Argentinian DJ helped to popularise dance music on the White Isle, inspiring the likes of Danny Rampling, Paul Oakenfold, and Nicky Holloway who caught his Amnesia set in 1987 and were influenced to bring his sound home to the UK. He also inspired the Balearic beat movement and influential club nights such as Shoom.
The fundraiser was launched by the Secret DJ earlier this month to help support both Alfredo and his son, Jaime Fiorito, who will use the money towards retirement home costs and medical care.
“Many of you already helped, but private healthcare is an ongoing cost,” writes the Secret DJ. “Alfredo is well looked after, but for that to continue we need his friends to support his cause.”
“Some will be used to help Alfredo live in more comfort. Some will be used to take him outside and get some air,” he explained.
The fundraiser looks to hit a target of £30,000 and is currently around £4,000 off that goal. The cost of a year in care is £12,000, according to the Secret DJ, so any additional funds will give “peace of mind” for Alfredo’s future care.
In February 2021, Alfredo launched a fundraiser to help with living costs such as rent and bills after suffering a stroke and struggling to cope without any work or income for a year during the pandemic.
Alfredo wrote on GoFundMe: "This last year has been a disaster for so many of us, I have had no work or income for almost a year and recently suffered a stroke which has affected my health, and like many in the music world my situation is very bad.
“I can no longer pay my rent or support my family and so I humbly ask if you can help with your donations so I can keep going,” he said. The fundraiser collected more than €30,000.
