Panic spread during Solomun event at Tehmplo Tulum following nearby shooting
A man was allegedly killed near the event venue in the early hours of January 9
A man was reportedly shot and killed in the early hours of Friday, January 9, near the venue Tehmplo Tulum, prompting an investigation by state authorities.
According to local news outlet Quintana Roo Hoy, the shooting occured during an event in which Solomun was performing at the venue. Reports cited by the publication state that an armed individual fired multiple shots, hitting the victim in the chest and back before fleeing the scene.
Municipal police officers were reportedly unable to immediately enter the premises, and an ambulance later confirmed the victim’s death, identified as a male seasonal worker. No arrests were made at the scene, though authorities described the incident as a targeted attack.
Wololo Sound reported that the Quintana Roo State Attorney General’s Office (Fiscalía General del Estado/FGE) later stated that the shooting occurred on a dirt road near the venue, not inside the grounds.
A video emerged online showing panicked attendees running in fear, while music continued to play in the background. In a statement, the FGE said the shooting did not pose a risk to event attendees.
Quintana Roo Ahora shared a post on X, reporting that the killing occurred shortly after the municipal government publicly stated that Tulum had gone two months without recorded executions.
The post also claims that the fatally shot man was the first victim of homicide registered in the municipality in 2026 under the current administration, and referenced figures indicating that roughly 60 homicides were recorded in Tulum through 2025.
An investigation has been opened for aggravated homicide. Municipal, state, and federal authorities are working jointly to identify anyone involved. Investigators are looking into a possible drug-related connection but are also pursuing other leads.
