fabric issue lifetime ban to attendee who posted footage of clubgoer on social media

London club fabric has issued a lifetime ban for one attendee who filmed and poked fun at a clubgoer in a post on Twitter.

“Yo I’ll never be going to fabric again after seeing this,” reads a tweet from the attendee, alongside a video of a clubgoer dancing with their shirt off.

After the video circulated Twitter on Monday, December 12, fabric responded: “Great, given this tweet, we’d prefer it if you didn’t come.

“Our club was built on the values of free expression and the freedom to dance and not be judged,” they added. “We also have a No Photo Policy to protect our dancers' privacy. Please do the right thing and remove this video.”

In a follow-up tweet on Tuesday, December 13, fabric made clear that the clubgoer had been banned for life from the venue. “Yesterday we were made aware of a Tweet circulating featuring a video of a dancer at the club,” they said.

"We have requested that due to the nature of the caption and the context in which it was taken, that the video be removed. The author has been given a lifetime ban."

"We have a No Photo Policy to protect all clubgoers’ privacy. Everyone should be able to express themselves freely at fabric.”

Since the post, some clubgoers have called on the club to implement a door policy to prevent such issues. “Would you ever consider a door policy? Every time I’ve been to fabric I’ve felt unsafe as a woman,” one user asked in the comments.

“Lots of leering men that don’t seem to be there for the music, people taking videos, and a generally tense vibe. Amazing lineups and a great club/team but the crowd ruins it for me,” she added.

fabric first put in measures to ban photos and videos on the dancefloor in June 2021 before the club reopened post-pandemic. The club emphasised: “we encourage people to stay in the moment, protect the dancefloor experience, and avoid social media stress or anxiety."
