Essential: The Mulholland Free Clinic's self-titled debut album
Four of techno's heavyweights create sonic soundscapes
It would be unfair to call The Mulholland Free Clinic a supergroup when the word entails clashing egos and a disappointing product.
Instead, on the collaborative project’s debut LP they deliver atmospherics to suck you in and churning techno to spit you out. It’s a stunning debut from four of techno’s leading lights.
David Moufang, or Move D as he is more commonly known, is the glue that holds the project together. With Jonah Sharp he produces and plays dub techno as rEAGENZ. As Magic Mountain High he builds layer of ethereal, analogue techno with Juju & Jordash.
The essential thread that binds the group is a shared love of analogue hardware and live improvisation. The LP was recorded at the notorious Berlin ://about blank club in August 2016 - it was only the third time the group had played together. Subsequently, the three hour jam was edited down to under 80 minutes.
The record encompasses strange ambient landscapes, beatless euphoria and rolling techno. It was created using a sonic task force which included the Kord Minilogue, the Roland SH-101, the Yamaha CD-7, electric guitars, FX units, an analogue mixer and much more.
