Essential: Kanye West ‘Bed Yeezy Season 5’ (ft. The-Dream)
17 minutes of blissful immersion
Kanye West has uploaded a new The-Dream-featuring track to his SoundCloud account titled ‘Bed Yeezy Season 5’.
The song has gone through a few stages of evolution over the years. The original version was co-written by The-Dream and Los Da Mystro for Chris Brown in 2006, before the decision was made to give it to J. Holiday for its release in 2007.
A demo with The-Dream on vocals also appeared on an unofficial 53-track mixtape titled ‘LoveTape: The Demo’s’ that surfaced in 2010.
Later, during the Yeezy Season 5 fashion show, a 17-minute version of the The-Dream’s demo made in collaboration with Kanye West and DJDS was aired, which can now be streamed below.
It’s packed full of emotional resonance. The-Dream’s vocals take centre stage above the expansive production, with no verse from Kanye featured. Listen below.
