Terminal V's Edinburgh edition to end after 9 years, citing “significant” operational costs

Terminal V Festival has announced that it will cease operating in Edinburgh after one final edition in April, citing high operational costs.

The techno-focused festival, which began in 2017 at the Royal Highland Centre, revealed today (February 26) that it has made the “difficult decision” to pull the plug on the annual event, with plans to move to a new site in 2027.

The festival cited “evolving” operational requirements and the challenges of “delivering an event of this scale” in Edinburgh, as well as policing and other deployment costs.

“This is a significant moment for us,” says Terminal V co-founder Derek Martin. “Edinburgh has been home to Terminal V since the beginning, and some of our biggest moments have happened here.”

“We’re incredibly proud of what we’ve built in Edinburgh, the Festival City, over the past nine years, and grateful to The Royal Highland Centre and all of our partners who have supported the brand’s growth during this time.”

Terminal V will celebrate one final edition at its regular site from April 18 - 19, with a line-up of over 100 artists that includes 99999999, Anetha, Tommy Holohan, DJ Gigola, Mall Grab, Patrick Topping, Robert Hood, Sara Landry and more.

The festival will feature six stages, all “reimagined” for the final knees-up at The Royal Highland Centre, a large-scale exhibition hall next to Edinburgh Airport.

“To deliver the level of event we’ve produced over the last nine years is becoming increasingly challenging in the current environment,” says co-founder Simon McGrath.

“We’re not prepared to compromise on quality. Making this move will now allow us to take the festival further and deliver even more ambitious electronic music experiences in the years ahead.”

Since launching in 2017, Terminal V has expanded with editions in Croatia and London. While its Edinburgh edition will cease operating, the team promise that the Terminal V brand will continue to grow with “some exciting plans ahead”.
