Following last month’s collaboration with A Bathing Ape, Dr. Martens have announced their next release with iconic Belgian designer Raf Simons.

To celebrate the sixtieth birthday of their 1460 boot, Dr. Martens is teaming up with 12 labels across 2020, all putting their own twists on the Original boot.

Such is the pair’s shared influence of music, art and youth subcultures, this isn’t the first time the two have collaborated.

Never one to conform, for the latest Remastered project, Simons has covered the Smooth leather upper with a series of anarchistic punk-style nickel rings. Alongside being inspired by the customisation trend during the New Romantic/ Punk club scene of the late 70s, the placement of the rings is also a nod to the structure of a mid-century design piece — an homage to Raf Simons’ background in detail-driven furniture design.

A dual-branded Dr. Martens x Raf Simons logo is embossed on the boot’s ankle cuff to add a finishing detail. With Simon’s passion for Dr. Martens and his flare for channeling youth subcultural aesthetic, the result fuses a nod to rebellious punk culture with avant-garde design.

The collection will be available online and in select stores from Saturday 22nd February.
