Kanye West's ‘Donda’ event has become Apple Music’s most-watched livestream

The second livestream held for the ‘Donda’ album release by Kanye West brought in the most viewers on any Apple Music livestream to date.

August 5 saw West take to the Mercedez Benz Stadium in Atlanta for the second time to play the project to thousands of fans.

The livestream began before the performance began, with audiences watching Kanye work out, sleep, and record music beforehand.

Billboard found that the performance brought in an audience of 5.4 million on Apple Music, the highest number ever recorded on the platform. West also held the previous record with 3.3 million for his initial ‘DONDA’ livestream. It is also noted by Billboard that Kanye is believed to have made $7 million from merchandise sales related to the event.

The album is yet to be released. Apple Music has lined up the release date for the project as August 13, as per their website. But multiple delays and even entirely scrapped projects have left fans doubtful about the album’s release.

There has been much speculation about the album, with reports this week that Kanye and his team had moved to an entirely different stadium to finish the album, as per tweets from a KayCyy, who works closely with the artists.

These tweets were later debunked, with KayCyy writing: “‘We moving to another stadium’ is a cap,” claiming that hackers had broken into his account to make the tweets.
