Djrum announces first release since 2019, 'Meaning's Edge'

Djrum has announced his forthcoming EP, 'Meaning's Edge', which will mark his first release since 2019 upon its release on November 22.

Dubbed "an introduction to a whole new world", it explores a variation of production techniques honed since his debut EP in 2010, this time with a more lighter, quicker approach to writing music — even utilising his own flute playing across the record.

Such use of various flutes - particularly Bansuri, Shakuhatchi, Western and Classical - is synthesised, with each coherently blurred to result in the airy atmosphere attached to the half-hour-long release. That is, of course, amidst its divergence affectionately associated with the musician, aka Felix Manuel.

By drawing upon his experiences of recent times, and across his life - from ethnomusicology studies to hours of DJing to explorations of his own neurological and emotional makeup - a variety of soundscapes are touched upon. There's OG dubstep, glittering braindance and post-classical exploration, hints of musical patterning of genres including grime and even elements inspired by Tanzania’s hyperspeed singeli style of dance music.

To accompany the announcement - revealed on his Instagram this week - he's shared lead single 'Codex', which you can check out now.
