DJ Spank Spank’s family is reaching out to the friends and fans of the late Phuture co-founder by launching a GoFundMe campaign with hopes it will help aid in their current financial struggles.

On September 22, DJ Spank Spank, aka Earl Smith, died due to unreported causes. He also suffered a stroke back in May and underwent surgery shortly after.

Now as Smith’s family is left with a daunting medical bill, they are asking those who are able to show support: “We hope you can give back to the man who has given everyone so much. The Smith Family has been left with a tremendous burden after his initial stroke a few months ago and we ask of you to help them with the expenses have gone with all the recent medical expenses and recent services."

Smith formed the legendary dance music production crew Phuture in 1985 alongside DJ Pierre and Herb J. At the time of his passing, a statement was posted to the group’s Facebook page: “We will for certain continue the work he’s started on his final album project and his innovations in music.”
