DJ Paypal exploits the high-speed energy of footwork to the max.
Samples ricochet off every kick in 'Buy Now', as if he's trying to recreate the hyperactive bonk of a game of Whack-A-Mole played in fast-forward.
His Teklife heroes have made use of hip hop's slouch and r'n'b's sensuality to give the pace a sense of chill, but Paypal goes full throttle, choosing disco as his main muse and loading his tracks with vibrant activity.
Sounds like a lot, but his craftsmanship is clear to hear and 'Buy Now' ain't no mindless thing; 'I'm Ready' and 'Fire' unfurl into killer shots of pop, sunny samples dancing gleefully over that oh-so-invigorating 160bpm tempo. A fine take on footwork indeed.
