DJ Dozia
Pop Culture (Ovum)
8/10
When DJ Dozia's 'Pop Culture' hit the record shops in 1998 on Josh Wink's Ovum Recordings, it made quite a stir. It had a profound effect on Joris Voorn, who cites it as an influence on tracks like 'Sweep The Floor' which he made a decade later. Voorn asked Wink if he could remix it in 2007, but found it hard to improve on it; in the end he stepped away from the original and created more of a nod to the track. Here, Phil Weeks remixed it, also staying true to the original track he loved. KiNK's added a little 'KiNK' to it, and Ambivalent have turned in a driving mix and a techy mix, after hassling Josh for the parts over the years. The original and the Size 9 versions were never released digitally, and they are also available for the first time.
