Dinamo Azari

Azari & III were an explosion of hedonistic old-school house. They split up a couple of years ago but those expecting more of the same from their key producer will be disappointed. Toronto-based Dinamo Azari has taken things so deep they're positively subterranean.

'Estranged' has a techy sound with a gloopy percussive pulse, as if heard from another room. Azari & III's singers are on a couple of tunes, alongside other vocalists, but this isn't a song-led outing. From the Warp-ish abstraction of opener 'Witchwood' to the Marilyn Monroe-sampling weirdness of 'Psychosis' via 'Haçienda's brief, incongruous interlude of rave piano, these are serious DJ tool head-nodders.
