Diddy’s lawyers ask for almost immediate release, say he’s served enough time

Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs’ lawyers have asked a New York judge to allow the disgraced rap mogul to be released from prison on time when he’s sentenced next month.

Combs’ defence asked that he serve no more than 14 months in prison for his conviction on two prostitution-related charges at a trial on Monday (September 22).

If agreed, it would mean he’d be freed almost immediately. Combs is due to be sentenced on October 3, just over 12 months since he was arrested.

His defence previously put forward a $50 million bail package to Judge Arun Subramanian, which was rejected. They now urge for his on-time release, with mandatory drug treatment, therapy, and counselling.

They argued in a submission that Combs suffered “profound” trauma as a child after his father’s death, which led him to “serious substance abuse issues” later in life at the time of alleged offences.

His defence also said that those issues emerged around the time when he was in “violent” relationships with his two ex partners, both of who are involved in the convictions.

“He has served over a year in one of the most notorious jails in America – yet has made the most of that punishment,” his lawyers said (via AP News).

“It is time for Mr. Combs to go home to his family, so he can continue his treatment and try to make the most of the next chapter of his extraordinary life.”

His defence argued that he has received “adequate” punishment already during his imprisonment, living in “terrible” and “inhumane” conditions. They also argue that his “reputation has been destroyed”.

In July, the Bad Boy Records founder was exonerated on charges of racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking, but was found guilty on two of five charges he was facing of transportation for engagement in prostitution.
