Detroit officially names Techno Week in honor of Movement
The celebrations start early
The city of Detroit is rife with techno history and home to many of the genre's founding moments and sounds.
As it prepares to welcome techno aficionados in for Movement Detroit this upcoming weekend, city officials have properly recognized the importance of the music and named this week (beginning May 23 through 30) Detroit Techno Week.
Mayor Mike Duggan inked the official recognition paperwork, signing off by encouraging all to "come out and celebrate the festivities, as it creates local and international awareness of Detroit's rising creative culture".
