Dean Grenier
Rangeform
9/10
Once again we find ourselves drawn to Omnidisc, on the basis that its output has been spot-on since it began over a year ago. Until recently, the label boss decided to keep his identity a secret so he could concentrate strictly on the music, but now that we know that Danny Daze is at the helm, it all makes sense.
His recent ‘Miami’ EP blew us away and ‘P.O.P’ is an early shout for one of the tracks of the year. For the label’s ninth release, Dean Grenier has served up a tale of two halves: here’s a well-balanced split between the melancholy and the savage.
‘Rotorvator’ and ‘Rangeform’ fall into the latter category, with the former snarling and side-winding from the first razor-sharp beat. ‘Cascade’s is our pick of the bunch, though, with its serene riffs and heavy kicks.
It’s got an element of beauty to it and if we heard this in Panorama Bar, we think we’d be smiling from ear-to-ear – maybe even crying.
