Date set for Sean 'Diddy' Combs sentencing for prostitution charges
The disgraced mogul has been denied bail by a New York court and will remain in prison until his sentencing later this year
The date for Sean 'Diddy' Combs' sentencing hearing has been announced, after the disgraced hip hop star was found guilty of offences relating to prostitution by a New York court last week.
A Manhattan jury delivered the verdict on Wednesday (July 2), finding Combs guilty of two counts of transporting prostitutes; however, the jury found Combs not guilty on the more serious charges of sex trafficking and racketeering, concluding a high-profile trial which had started on May 12.
Combs was found guilty of transporting an anonymous girlfriend across the country and hiring male prostitutes — offences that carry jail time of up to 20 years, though according to Sky News, it's "unlikely" the mogul will receive the maximum penalty.
Today (July 9), the court announced that Combs' sentencing hearing will take place on October 3, though despite pushes from his defence team, he will not receive bail.
His lawyers had argued that Combs' was "not going to flee" due to the fact he had “been given his life back”. Prosecutors and Judge Arub Subramanian agreed that evidence of "the defendant's violence in his personal relationships" meant he should be denied bail.
According to Sky News, prosecutors had hinted at around a "four or five" year prison sentence, while his defence team has argued for around two years.
