Darq E Freaker
ADHD EP
8/10
Darq E Freaker’s work has always lent itself well to the US-centric trap sound, but on ‘ADHD’, he takes his music into a different universe altogether.
Extraordinary, metronome-like booms on semi-hypnotising opener ‘Hallucinate’ are pitched against melodies so sugary and sickly you almost forget you’re not walking around Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory, before ‘Flabbergasted’ comes correct again, with darker bass pressure and a frenzied rhythm. ‘2C-I’ is even more off-the-wall, with abstract, screeching synths, while ‘Mosquito Bite’ and ‘Venom’ keep things supercharged until the end. Scorcher!
