Róisín Murphy and Daphni on compilation donating to Oakland charities

Kris Peterson, former label manager of DFA, has curated a new compilation release with the focus on raising funds to support relief efforts following the tragic Ghost Ship fire in Oakland.

The compilation, titled ‘Lives Through Magic’, will be released as a double cassette and features tracks from Daphni, Patricia, JD Twitch of Optimo, Sage Caswell, Malory and Róisín Murphy (pictured) among others.

Peterson described the vision behind the compilation as being a tribute to the DIY scene, which members of the community are trying to protect.

"This compilation has been birthed due to a tragic event, but I do not want the compilation to be a souvenir of a tragedy. I am instead aiming for a positive document of the beauty that exists in the minds, bodies, and spirits of our small, but global community. Many of the folks contributing have all played in, lived in, and truly loved DIY spaces like Ghost Ship."

Back in December 2016, 36 people lost their lives at The Golden Donna’s 100% Silk party at the Ghost Ship arts space in Oakland, California. Cherushii and Nackt, two 100% Silk affiliated artists were among the deceased and The Nite Owl Diner is releasing a posthumous Nackt EP on January 13.

The proceeds from the ‘Lives Through Magic’ compilation, set for release on January 30, will go directly to The Gray Area Foundation For The Arts and the Trans Assistance Project.
