CTM Festival expects to lose €12,000 following Berlin box office bankruptcy

Berlin experimental festival CTM has estimated that it will lose around €12,000 after Kreuzberg box office KOKA36 filed for bankruptcy in February.

CTM is now appealing for financial support following the news, explaining that the ticket sales agency that it commonly works with “unexpectedly” filed for insolvency just days ago.

“Along with around 30 Berlin clubs and promoters, we are affected by a significant loss of revenue,” they shared via Instagram, estimating that it would suffer €12,000 in damages.

Losses affect its recent festival, which went ahead from January 23 - February 1, as well as forthcoming concerts, claiming to have “little chance of recovering any of it, or certainty of when that might happen.”

“While CTM receives public funding for our festival, this does not cover the concerts we independently organise throughout the year, and as a non-profit, we hold no financial reserves to absorb losses like this,” they explained.

The festival is calling on fans for support by “simply coming to our upcoming events”, purchasing an extra ticket, or making a donation through its Supporter Ticket program.

Other Berlin-based music institutions affected by KOKA36’s bankruptcy filing include Friedrichshain promoters East Side Delta, as well as Kreuzberg venue So36, who similarly launched a fundraiser to aid with losses.

So36 revealed that it was forced to "write off €40,000 in ticket revenue” following the insolvency, urging for help to reclaim the losses. After setting up a fundraiser, So36 raised more than €45,000, and now asks fans to help support others affected.
