Crowdfunder launched for DJ Decimal Point following “life-threatening” road crash
Ugandan festival Nyege Nyege say he is in “stable condition” but will soon undergo surgery
A crowdfunder has been launched to help support medical bills for Kampala artist DJ Decimal Point after he was involved in a “life threatening” road incident.
Per a GoFundMe page, DJ Decimal Point – real name Ronald Kyakuwa – was recently involved in a crash with a truck, which severely injured both of his legs.
Kyakuwa’s team called the incident a "cruel twist of fate” as he's lived with a "serious leg handicap since childhood, after doctors once told him he would never walk”. He will now undergo “complex” surgery to rebuild one of his legs, which they say was “almost completely destroyed” in the incident.
The crowdfunder, which has so far raised €1,700, asks for support to help cover medical bills for surgeries, recovery, and rehabilitation, due to “overwhelming” expenses.
“So far, his family and close friends have covered the costs,” reads the crowdfunder. “We know times are hard, and we don't take this request lightly. But if his music, his energy, or his story has ever touched you, please consider standing with him now.”
His team also noted that, after being admitted to Mulago Hospital in Kampala, Kyakuwa has made it through “several critical surgeries” and is now on the road to recovery.
“His older sister, Suzan, has been by his side every day, ensuring he receives the best possible care,” they said. "Together, we can help DJ Decimal Point get back on his feet, and back to doing what he does best: spreading joy and music.”
Ugandan dance music festival Nyege Nyege also called for support for Kyakuwa on Instagram, writing: “For someone that has fought all his life this is very sad, but we know Deci will soon stand again.”
