Circus Recordings hosted Beatport’s inaugural Beats In School competition and label boss Yousef has just revealed the winner to be Australian DJ and producer Taya Mills.

Following an extensive process of dwindling down contestants to just 20 finalists, Yousef hand-picked Taya and will now welcomes the 28-year-old producer into the Circus family with a year-long label mentorship.

Hailing from Byron Bay, Australia, Taya was raised in an actual circus by rave-loving parents, which makes Circus Records a fitting label family. He’s been a fixture in the local house and techno scene and, as he states, is looking forward to this next chapter in his career:

“I look up to Yousef and I believe being mentored by him will allow me to reach my full potential. Touring the world sharing my music has been my dream since I was nine, and it’s becoming closer and closer to my reality.”

By winning Beatport’s Beats In School, Taya will receive training from Point Blank Music School and will work closely with specialists from Serato, Roland, Pioneer DJ and Native Instruments.

The next round of Beats In School is getting set to begin, with Above & Beyond’s Anjunabeats as the focus. Look for more news on how to enter coming soon.
