Christian Löffler
'York' (2020 Vision)
8/10
He's previously released two great albums, so we're aware of Christian's expertise – but this EP nearly didn't appear as the laptop containing the demos was lost.
Copies were eventually found, and thankfully it's now seeing the light of day.
York sounds like Craig Armstrong working with Vince Watson: wistful strings working with the emotive basslines and synths. It's proof that house has come of age and now produces timeless music that you can play to your grandparents and baby siblings.
'Lhotse' is stripped-back, downbeat electronica, while 'Nordkap' is just lovely, lush deep house, but nothing can surpass the beauty of the stunning title track.
