CCL shares debut solo EP 'Plot Twist'

CCL has shared their debut EP this week, 'Plot Twist'.

As per their sonic storytelling via mixtapes, sets and releases, the four-tracker is an incisive affair which oscillates between genre and texture born partially from time spent in Berlin, Bristol, the DIY scene of Seattle and the American Midwest.

The eponymous opening track snappily delves into a cosmic soundscape - boosted by a chilled, soft voice - combining electric guitar riffing, dubstep and 2-step creation, whilst 'Strange Attractor' explores warm 160bpm psychedelia, rousing vocals and celestial chords.

Elsewhere, 'The Plot Thickens' takes a look towards opener 'Plot Twist' from the perspective of a different character. Balancing a dark opulence with a sense of weightlessness, its glitches and vocal from CCL precedes its remix from Piezo. The EP closer is a tense, darkwave-influenced offering, driving the original to an intriguing breakpoint.

"I’ve agonized over “sounding like myself” for so long, it feels a little ironic these tracks were made as silly thought experiments, mostly during lockdown, with no expectation of release, no dancefloors in sight, with an emphasis on cheekiness and almost absurd genre exploration - and most importantly, fun," they wrote on their Instagram. "I’ve realized it’s impossible for me to be everything I want to present in one release, but here’s a cheeky sliver of my musical universe for you."
