Carl Cox honoured with mural in Cardiff ahead of The Prodigy tour leg

Carl Cox has been honoured with a large-scale mural in Cardiff, Wales.

A portrait of the legendary DJ and producer was painted by Welsh street artist Steve Jenkins (aka Jenks) last week on the boardwalk by Cardiff’s Principality Stadium.

The mural was painted ahead of Cox’s show at the Utilita Arena on Sunday, April 19, where he was reunited with The Prodigy to perform a warm-up, two-hour hybrid vinyl set ahead of their headline gig.

The portrait features Carl Cox front and centre, with The Prodigy’s logo in the background and Cox’s “Oh yes, oh yes!” tagline beside him, alongside text that reads: “Cardiff welcomes Carl Cox & The Prodigy 2026”.

Carl Cox has since shared photos of himself beside the mural, and a video walking down the boardwalk where it appears, telling fans that it’s "incredible" to see the portrait in person.

“Someone's actually taken the time out to do that in the honour of myself and The Prodigy,” he said in the video, adding that it’s a "pretty good" likeness. "I feel honoured actually, and pretty humbled by it. It’s incredible to see it."

Muralist Steve Jenkins told BBC News that the boardwalk felt like the "perfect place" to paint the portrait. In a Facebook post, he said that it’s "so cool that life allows these experiences", alongside some photos of the painting process.

Speaking to the BBC News, Jenkins also said that he was "gutted" to miss out on meeting Cox, who visited the mural after it was finished, but added that it was "heartwarming" to see his video.

"Seeing that he appreciated it and had photos in front of it, that was enough for me, but it would have been lovely to meet him," he said. "I hope it's made him feel a really nice, warm connection to Cardiff."
