Boylan
Ghosts In The Machine EP
8/10
As the only member of grime production trio Edgem yet to debut on a solo tip, Boylan pulls no punches here.
Already acclaimed for his monstrous edits (see his ‘I Luv U’ flip), ‘Ghosts In The Machine’ feels even more destructive. The title track by itself is a statement, but its electrified bass stabs and razor-like claps are outdone by the frenzied energy and doom of ‘Where Do You Go At Night?’.
‘Fire On Mars’ turns up the heat in orchestral fashion, seemingly referencing Holst’s classical score ‘The Planets’, before tearing back with on ‘Bass Go Boom’. We need a lie down.
