Body of missing DJ and MC Maycon Douglas found on beach in Portugal

The body of DJ and MC Maycon Douglas has been discovered on a beach in Praia do Sul, Portugal, more than a week after he was reported missing.

The 26-year-old, who was born in Brazil and based in Nazaré, was reported missing on December 31, according to Portugal’s National Maritime Authority.

Douglas was reportedly performing at a bar on New Year’s Eve, The Sun reports, where he left to go home with a friend. A car belonging to the DJ was found submerged around six metres deep in the Praia do Norte sea, notorious for its colossal waves, on January 1.

A search party made up of six forensic divers from the Maritime Police was deployed at around 8:50AM on New Year’s Day, Journal Das Caldas reports, who later noted that no one was found inside the submerged vehicle.

Nazaré lifeboats, local firefighters, jet skis and police were all deployed after a fisherman pulled a body from the water on January 7 near the spot where Douglas’ car was discovered.

The body was then identified as Douglas’. An autopsy is being conducted to establish the cause of death, though police have not yet ruled out the prospect of foul play, The Sun reports.

Maycon Douglas first rose to fame as a contestant on the reality TV show Casa dos Degredos (Secret Story). He performed as a DJ and MC across parties in Portugal, playing hip hop, funk, and dance music.

A funeral service took place yesterday, January 11, in Leiria. Friends, family, and members of the public gathered to pay their respects to the late artist and TV star.
