Blaze rips through Tomorrowland main stage, festival says it's "finding solutions"

A blaze has ripped through Tomorrowland's main stage, less than 48-hours before the Belgian festival is due to begin. 

Footage circulating social media shows a dramatic fire ripping through the ice-themed main stage today (Wednesday, July 16), with smoke from the site visible from planes landing in the area.

At 8:30PM local time, Tomorrowland published a statement confirming that no one was injured as a result of the fire, but the main stage has been "severely damaged" in the incident. 

The festival added that its campsite, DreamVille, will open as planned tomorrow (Thursday, July 17) for arrivals — while activities planned around Brussels and Antwerp for "Global Journey" attendees will similarly be going ahead.

"We are focused on finding solutions for the festival weekend (Friday – Saturday – Sunday)," the statement adds, with details set to be announced as soon as possible.

According to The Mirror, local firefighters "battled" to prevent the blaze from spreading to nearby woodlands on the border of the festival site. 

Euronews reports that local residents in Boom, the closest town to the festival site, have been advised to keep their windows and doors closed. 1,000 festival workers are said to have been on-site at the time of the fire breaking out, which reportedly started at around 2:PM local time.

It's currently unclear how the fire began, however, WeRaveYou reports that a local resident has claimed that a firework hit their kitchen skylight "completely melting it." 

Photographs taken by local news sources appear to show major destruction to the stage; the festival had expected to welcome around 400,000 attendees across two weekends, with gates originally scheduled to open at 11:AM on Friday.
