Icelandic artist Björk has joined the cryptocurrency revolution - announcing that her forthcoming album ‘Utopia’ will be available for purchase with Bitcoin, Litecoin, Dashcoin and AudioCoin.

Always residing on the cutting-edge, Bjork is the first major artist to encourage her massive and loyal fanbase to purchase her music in this fashion. Described as a “dating-album," anyone who pre-orders ‘Utopia’ through her website will be rewarded 100 AudioCoins (the monetary equivalent of $0.25) which can be sold or invested in other cryptocurrencies.

Cryptocurrencies are not backed by governments, exists outside of centralized banking systems and have gained a great deal of traction since the launch of Bitcoin in 2009.

The Times reports that Blockpool, the company that is responsible for organizing the payment tactics for the artist’s upcoming album, argues that “decentralized music currency rewards fans and artists at the same time.”
