Bandcamp Friday returns after previous edition raised £2.4 million for independent artists

Bandcamp Friday returns today (August 1), giving fans the opportunity to directly support artists and labels through sales on the platform.

The scheme, which rose to popularity during the COVID-19 pandemic, sees Bandcamp forego its cut on the sale of music, merch and other items on the site to ensure vendors receive 100% of the revenue.

According to a press release, the last Bandcamp Friday in May raised over $3.2 million (£2.4 million) for independent artists and labels in 24-hours. Since the scheme began in 2020, it has contributed £105 million in sales.

Having started at 8:AM BST this morning, this month's Bandcamp Friday will last for 24 hours until 8:AM BST tomorrow.

Bandcamp has also shared plans to hold three more Bandcamp Friday editions this year, with the next scheduled for September 5 — another will kick off on October 3, before the final Bandcamp Friday of 2025 on December 5.

Optimo have called on fans to help support one half of the duo JD Twitch - AKA Keith McIvor - who was diagnosed with a terminal brain tumour last month, via Bandcamp Friday sales today.

"Supporting Optimo Music today is more than just buying music," the Optimo music team wrote in an Instagram post, pointing to their eye-watering, 250-track catalogue on the platform. "It's supporting Keith, his artists, the community he's nurtured, and the legacy of care, curiosity, and connection that he's developed over decades."
