Leeds promoters Back To Basics have launched the ‘Rare Classics’ series - an EP and album project highlighting dance music rarities.

Led by resident and music director Ralph Lawson, the series has been in the works for two years and comes through the club’s own label.

Lawson hunted down the original master recordings for the series, which encompasses tracks played on the Back To Basics dancefloor since 1991. Lawson describes the tracks as offering "a true picture of the music" played on the club's floor.

The tracks will be split across four vinyl EPs, before being collated into one full-length release in March next year.

The project's first EP is due out in early December and features tracks like Lil Louis (pictured) & The World's ‘I Called You (The Story Continues)’ which was an end-of-the-night tune at Back To Basics, Mike Perras' ‘Keep Movin'’ and M-I-Cara's ‘Casa Beat’.

Cuts from Neal Howard, Cajmere, Cassio Ware, Mood II Swing, Eddie Fowlkes, Black Science Orchestra and Armando are among those set to appear on the next three EPs.

Back To Basics is turns 26 with a party on November 25 at Church in Leeds. Headlining is Masters At Work’s Kenny Dope who's booked for an "exclusive New York classics set."
