Back again: six unmissable autumn albums from returning artists

The sweet smell of freshly-pressed records is floating across the autumn air and we're loving it. Summer's done and the music industry is getting back down to business. There's a flurry of full lengths about to be released and many of the albums dropping at the end of this year are by returning artists who are about to put the young pretenders back in their places and remind you, the listener, just why they are regarded so highly. Here are six releases you must cop over the next couple of months.

Freshly pressed: here are six unmissable autumn albums from rising artists

Mr G 'Personal Momentz' (Phoenix G)
Last year, Mr G released 'Retrospective' via Rekids. As you can tell by the title, it collected together his most incendiary singles and introduced a new generation of ravers to his killer tech-house style. It also cemented his rep as a true underground legend. Now the man is back with an album of new material. 'Personal Momentz' is fresh out on his Phoenix G label and is nothing short of great. Melodic, rolling and really, really hard to ignore, the LP is a must-buy for those seeking quality, no bullshit, no gimmicks, house. He'll no doubt be playing one of his sweat-soaked live sets in support of the record, so make sure you go see him, too.

Wiley 'Snakes And Ladders' (Big Dada)
Wiley's stepping it up a notch. His last two albums, 'The Ascent' and 'Evolve Or Be Extinct', were pretty disappointing, but new single 'On A Level' is fierce and incisive and makes him look like a prize fighter again. It comes ahead of his next studio album, 'Snakes And Ladders' and is a strong start to the LP's promo campaign indeed. Given the instrumental grimewave that's sweeping the UK and beyond and the slew of strong vocal grime singles released this year, it looks like the godfather has taken note and decided to pull his finger out. Don't mess it up this time, Wiley. No release date yet, though it will drop via grime-friendly Big Dada.

Andy Stott 'Faith In Strangers' (Modern Love)
Manchester's Modern Love has been releasing on-point experimental electronic music for the best part of a decade now. One of the key figures on the label is Andy Stott, who will release his third album this autumn. It's a predictably strange encounter but nothing about the songwriting on it is predictable at all. Expect to hear soaring female vocals atop industrial clangs and cracks, as Stott creates romance from the sound of sheet metal being ripped in two. Cold but soulful, this is definitely one to hear as the nights grow longer. Out November 17.

Edward 'A Better Future' (Giegling)
Edward has been releasing music since 2007 via Giegling and White, two underground deep house labels that serve as lightning rods for the central European scene. A purveyor of that hazy, lysergic, brushed-metal vibe, Edward has just released his second album, the beautifully titled 'A Better Future'. He says its inspired by punk and new wave as well as early electronic music and the results are leftfield but still dancefloor friendly. Out via Giegling, the double-vinyl pack will be gone in a flash, so move fast if you want to hear it.

Session Victim 'See You When You Get There' (Delusions Of Granduer)
Another house act that's been putting out 12"s since the mid 00s, Session Victim return with second album 'See You When You Get There' on November 10. This is cause for celebration for fans of upbeat, lively, soulful, sample-heavy house music and will no doubt be a real cracker. 2012 LP 'The Haunted House Of House' put the German duo on the map and provided several dancefloor anthems and its follow up promises to thrust Session Victim even further into the limelight. With a killer live show (that's live in the actual sense of the word) and a knack for delivering DJ-friendly singles as well as great listening music, these boys will rule the rest of your year.

Mr Oizo 'The Church' (Brainfeeder)

If you think Quentin Dupiuex sounds like the name of an avant garde film director or a bleeding-edge music producer who does whatever the fuck he wants and answers to no one apart from himself, then you'd be right. Quentin is Mr Oizo and on November 17 he'll release yet another bonkers LP. 'The Church' is packed with everything we've come to expect from the uncompromising Frenchman: haywire electro, stonking techno and just a dash of low-end flatulence. Kneel at the altar of Oizo and get ready for a spanking.
