Avalon Emerson shares track sampling New York mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani
The NYC-based DJ dropped the track at Brooklyn nightclub Nowadays over the weekend
New York-based DJ Avalon Emerson has sampled a speech by NYC mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani in a new track.
In a post shared on Instagram yesterday (June 16), Avalon teased a new breakbeat cut sampling a speech from a televised debate between Mamdani and former New York governor Andrew Cuomo, which took place last week.
The mayoral frontrunners faced off in a second debate ahead of the next election, which takes place on June 24, vying for early support from voters.

In the debate, Mamdani told Cuomo: “I have never had to resign in disgrace, I have never cut Medicaid, I have never stolen hundreds of millions of dollars from the MTA, I have never hounded the 13 women who credibly accused me of sexual harassment, I have never sued for gynaecological records.”
“I have never done those things because I am not you, Mr. Cuomo,” he said. “And furthermore, the name is Mamdani. M-A-M-D-A-N-I.”
Avalon Emerson has used the snippet from Mamdani’s speech in a new track, debuted at Brooklyn nightclub Nowadays over the weekend.

Avalon was performing alongside the likes of Byron Yeates, Ladiez Drink Free, Lis Dalton, and RYKER at Nowadays’ Nonstop event on Saturday, June 14.
“I know Zohran is gonna win because Avalon Emerson just sampled this at Nowadays and everyone went nuts,” an attendee said on Twitter, alongside a video clip from Mamdani’s speech.
Zohran Mamdani is a Democratic Socialist candidate, endorsed by the likes of Bernie Sanders, and is the only vocal pro-Palestine contender of the election’s seven Democratic candidates.
