An autopsy into the cause of his death is scheduled to go ahead today

​Atlanta rapper Rich Homie Quan has died aged 34

Atlanta rapper Rich Homie Quan has died aged 34, authorities confirmed yesterday, September 5.

The rapper, real name Dequantes Devontay Lamar, died on Thursday at a hospital in Atlanta, Georgia, a Fulton County medical examiner has said.

His cause of death is not currently known, although an autopsy is scheduled to go ahead today (September 6), according to medical authorities.

Since his come-up in the hip hop scene in the 2010s, Lamar became one of Atlanta’s most prominent rappers, bagging nominations for several BET Hip Hop Awards and scoring mainstream success with his 2013 single ‘Type of Way’.

His 2015 track ‘Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh)’ rose to success after release, hitting number 26 in the Billboard Hot 100 chart. He’s since collaborated with the likes of 2 Chainz, Gucci Mane, Young Thug, and more.

Lamar was the oldest of three siblings, born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia. He’s survived by his four sons.

Following his death, tributes have poured in from the hip hop community. In an Instagram story, Megan Thee Stallion wrote: "RIP to one of the best."

2 Chainz also paid tribute in an Instagram post, writing: "Dam lil brother, we just spoke about shooting a video, special prayer for you and your family, and pray for any and everybody that's dealing with something my condolences bru."

Taking to Instagram yesterday, rapper and former Migos member Quavo wrote: "May God be with us, never saw this being apart of our journey".
