Apple's new wireless HomePod speaker "reinvents music in the home"
Available in December
HomePod is the new wireless speaker from Apple.
The company details that it uses spatial awareness to work out its location and automatically adjust the audio depending on where it is in the room.
At a height of seven inches, it has an upward-facing woofer with an A8 chip which "enables bass management through real-time software modelling". This is said to deliver the crispiest bass possible.
Another key aspect is Apple's Siri software, able to give you intelligence on track titles and other information you'd like to find out. Six microphones mean Siri can understand speech from a variety of distances.
HomePod is also integrated with Apple Music, the company's streaming subscription service with around 40 million songs.
Apple's senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing Philip Schiller said: “Apple reinvented portable music with iPod and now HomePod will reinvent how we enjoy music wirelessly throughout our homes.
"HomePod packs powerful speaker technology, Siri intelligence and wireless access to the entire Apple Music library into a beautiful speaker that is less than 7 inches tall, can rock most any room with distortion free music and be a helpful assistant around your home."
It'll have an initial December release in the UK, USA and Australia, available from €349 (US) in white and space grey. UK and Australian prices are yet to be confirmed.
