Apple denies the iTunes store is ceasing music downloads, again

Apple has denied rumours that it is putting a halt to the music download section of iTunes.

A number of outlets reported this week that Apple would be shutting down iTunes supported music downloads in 2019.

According to DJ Mag, sources within the tech company revealed that the decision was a response to the growth of Apple Music and the platform would be phased out by March 31 next year.

Sources also claimed that users would still continue to be able to access already purchased downloads in their existing iTunes library.

Digital Music News reported a similar story back in May 2016, which also prompted a denial from Apple.

This time around, The Sun reports it contacted a spokesperson from Apple who bluntly declared: “It's not true”.

Whether the company is being entirely truthful remains to be seen; there's a lot of smoke for a lack of fire. We'll have to wait and see.
