Aphex Twin logo projected onto Buckingham Palace

A projection of Aphex Twin's logo has been beamed onto Buckingham Palace, sparking rumours that the seminal producer will be performing at the upcoming coronation of King Charles III.

Appearing in a green light upon the exterior of the Royal Family's seat and official London residence, the logo was visible over the upper Eastern wing of the palace for just 10 minutes — but was captured by a number of IDM-loving passers-by.

Twitter user @eyeduntswet was one of the first to capture the appearance of AFX's signature, tweeting an image alongside the caption: "What does this mean ???????", with a number of replies from fans asking for more information around the symbol's appearance.

It's led to many speculating that this could signify an appearance from Aphex Twin, real name Richard D. James, at King Charles III's upcoming coronation.

Aphex is making a number of appearances at European tours this summer, teasing many with cryptic signifiers — including a billboard in Bristol before announcing FORWARDS and the creation of a mysterious website ahead of the announcement of his Field Day performance.

This isn't the first time James has alluded to performances this way, teasing his tour schedule in 2020 with posters in in London, Bristol, Berlin and LA.

This time it appears the Cornwall-born "MDMA Mozart" has been tapped by the organisers behind King Charles III's Coronation Concert next month (May 7) at Buckingham Palace — a booking notably turned down by popstars such as Adele, Ed Sheeran and Harry Styles, which may be a reason why The Royal Family has widened their search to more experimental planes.

Among fans reacting to the logo's appearance in Westminster last night were a number of famous names and industry heads. "I'm screaming" wrote Skream, while Calvin Harris wrote "Is this for real? Are pigs flying?"

Notably Fred again.., who went to the same school as Duchess of Cambridge, broke his Twitter silence to comment on the subject — writing: "Newwwssssssss 2 meeeeeeee"

In response to a fan asking "What?" in the replies, Fred again.. (aka Fred Gibson) responded: "I was told this was my slot.. fuming..."

Details of the Coronation Concert on May 7 have yet to be announced, it is currently unknown whether a stream will be available of performances on YouTube.
