An entertainment complex is being built opposite Berghain
Gentrification strikes again
The days of stepping out of Berghain into near-on desertion may soon be gone.
Developers are planning to build an "entertainment district" opposite the Berlin techno mecca, according to a local report. Where there's entertainment, there's always kids, so ravers better prepare themselves for a very different experience upon leaving the club once the development is complete in 2018.
A shopping centre, music hall, cinema, restaurants and a bowling alley are among the plans around the Mercedes Benz Arena, contributing towards the gentrification of the area.
This is by no means saying the Ostgut Ton-affiliated venue will have to close, but it's yet another example of nightclubs potentially being affected by developers looking to make a buck.
Annoying as it is, going bowling after 15 or so hours on the dancefloor could be pretty fun.
See the prospective plans below.
