An artist has turned modern hip hop album artworks into antique vinyl covers
Straight out of the bargain bin
It’s been a historic couple years for vinyl, with music lovers returning to the format in their record-breaking droves. But it’s not all about the music, with surveys suggesting nearly half of vinyl owners don’t actually play their records
Graphic designer and art director Patso Dimitrov has used his skills to recreate a number of modern hip hop album covers as relics of the 60s, 70s and 80s that you could find in any £1 bin.
Kendrick Lamar, Chance The Rapper and Rihanna have all been given the antique treatment via his Instagram page.
Dimitrov told Crack: “The idea came to me very organically. I collect vinyl records myself and am a huge music fan period (not only hip hop).
“Obviously I’ve been doing alternate artworks for a while now and have always liked to put my spin on things, but for the past few months I’ve been in the creative space of listening to a lot of funk and jazz from the 70s and 80s, and trying to put a more modern, more personal, spin to the visuals from that period of time. So when I combined that with my fondness of the record covers I recreated, that was the end result.”
