Amapiano powerhouse Charisse C has released her debut EP, 'EVERGREEN' (April 5), showcasing her skills as a singer and songwriter.

The DJ, radio host and artist adds label owner to her list of talents with the announcement of her record label, Abantu, which celebrated its launch at Village Underground on March 16 and debut release 'EVERGREEN'.

The four-track EP, produced in partnership with Ghanaian-British producer DJ Kwamzy and South African Soulful House aficionado Shazmicsoul, is a hybrid of genres and influences spotlighting South Africa's emerging genre 3-step.

Lead single 'Angisafuni', opens with a stripped-back but infectious rhythm before Charisse's softly sung vocals breeze in over the percussion. The distinctly summery sounds pick up in the second half of the track taking inspiration from old-school South African Deep House sure to feature in Charisse's eclectic sets over the summer.

'Morning Sun' leans towards pop without losing its amapiano heart. Charisse's taste for alternative R&B shines through on 'What I Need' as she builds out the track with atmospheric vocal stacking whilst 'Nguva Yangu' is said to be an 'ode' to Zimbabwe, Charisse C's birth county.

Charisse C took to Instagram to share news of the release and reflect on her exploration as a singer and artist through the EP: "EVERGREEN is the first exploration of my voice. An overcoming of fears. A commitment to myself to always exist in my multitudes" she revealed via the social media platform.
